contest rules

(In order to be fully legal, this has to be long — sorry!)

This is a judged contest

…but your entry doesn’t have to be brilliant to win — just entertaining, informative and/or useful to our readers.

To be eligible, all submissions — texts & photos — must be wholly original. By posting a text entry or photo you certify that you wrote or took it yourself.

Reviews must be positive in tone…as in “say nice things.” It’s fine to point out that, say, you had a lovely dinner at a restaurant, with the exception of an uninspired salad…but not to post a rant about how much you hated the place. (You can do that on Yelp.)

Winning text entries will be judged on 3 criteria:

Photos will be judged on 2 criteria:

selecting winners

For each category — short & long text entries OR photos — we'll select a winner when we've received 30 eligible submissions.

That's a total of 3 separate contests & 3 prizes!

Once the target number of entries has been received for a category, this round of the contest will be closed for it. The uvCompass staff will nominate several finalists, which will then be reviewed by a panel of judges we invite to determine the winner.

Winners will then be notified by email, choose the prize they want & receive a prize confirmation by email, which they may then present to the shop or restaurant they have chosen.

Then we'll start a new round…

the small print…

We won't edit your entries or photos without your express permission. However, if we determine that an entry or photo is of dubious quality or otherwise inappropriate, we won't include it in our "public" pages. but it will remain visible in your profile. So giving us permission to edit will improve your chances of winning. (You'll see a button for that in the edit form.) If you do give us permission, we'll only edit text for spelling, grammar & clarity & images for optimal display. We won't do anything drastic.

Your content belongs to you, but by posting an entry or photo you agree to let us include it in uvCompass for at least 60 days from the conclusion of the contest round — & you agree to let us include your name in the prize announcement.

And again — you don't have to be a literary genius or professional photographer to compete: Just be creative & enthusiastic…& you'll have an excellent chance of winning!

post something!
